All About Nevşehir

Nevşehir is one of the astonishing historic cities that every one should see. It dates back to 3000 B.C. It is the capital city of Cappadocia region. It is stated on a wide plateau that made of volcano tuff of Mt Erciyes, Mt Melendiz and Mt Hasan.
Nevşehir is famous with the Fairy chimneys. As you look at the land, you feel yourself in a dream city. For this reason they are called fairy chimneys. They happened as a result of the flood and wind’s eating away the tuff of the volcanoes. The fairy chimneys’ bodies are made of volcanic tuffs which is can be dissolved in flood and wind but the top of them are more resistant to wind and flood. They take their present forms as a result of this situation.

Cappadocia Guide

What we call "Cappadocia" today, if only for simplicity, is only a small part of the Hellenistic Kingdom and subsequent Roman Province which bore that name. The original size of the miles further east and west.
Even now, when the valleys around eh town Urgup are relatively easy to reach (it takes about Ankara, or a similar time by car from Ankara), Cappadocia still seems like a lost world to the arriving traveller. It took the 20th century -and perhaps the invention of photography- to make people appreciate the landscape around Urgup. Several of the most important fathers of the early Church lived in this district, but none of them mentions what it looked like.
